Portland Type Co. formerly plazmfonts & plazmtype design
Portland Type Co. founded in 2010, was first introduced in 1993, by Pete McCracken who founded the eclectic foundry to create typefaces for his design projects. The first typeface he created in 1992 and the first to be inducted into the foundry was “Petescript” – based on his handwriting created in his first year at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Surprised by the first commercial application he witnessed, Petescript was the cover of the Aerosmith greatest hits album BIG ONES. Since then, Pete has created over 75 typefaces and custom typography both experimental and commercial for MTV, Adidas, Dr. Martens, Doug Fir, Nike, Wieden and Kennedy, PICA, Starbucks, BBH, TARGET, PNCA, Plazm magazine and most recently for SPORE, a life simulation game from Electronic Arts, in collaboration with Cinco Design and Veronika Burian. Pete also continues to teach at his alma mater, PNCA and mentor emerging graphic artists and typeface designers. Thanks to all for the amazing work and great times – we look forward to many more.
